The role of a podiatrist is to improve mobility and increase the independence of individuals by the prevention and management of pathological foot problems and associated morbidity

  • This is achieved by:
    • Assessment and diagnosis of foot pathology
    • Identification of treatment and other requirements
    • Advice on foot health
    • Referral to other disciplines as appropriate
    • Formulation of care plans
    • Provision of care as deemed appropriate and agreed to by the individual
  •  To practice in accordance with developments in clinical practice, research and technology.

 

  • To ensure that communication with patients is respected and remains confidential.

 

  • To establish relationships with other care providers. To promote the skills of the podiatrist and provide information regarding foot care and appropriate support to other health professionals.

 

  • To be a primary source of information for the community in all matters relating to the foot.

 

  • To ensure podiatry is conducted in a manner consistent with the registration and the Code of Ethics of the Australian/New Zealand Podiatry Association.
