The role of a podiatrist is to improve mobility and increase the independence of individuals by the prevention and management of pathological foot problems and associated morbidity
- This is achieved by:
- Assessment and diagnosis of foot pathology
- Identification of treatment and other requirements
- Advice on foot health
- Referral to other disciplines as appropriate
- Formulation of care plans
- Provision of care as deemed appropriate and agreed to by the individual
- To practice in accordance with developments in clinical practice, research and technology.
- To ensure that communication with patients is respected and remains confidential.
- To establish relationships with other care providers. To promote the skills of the podiatrist and provide information regarding foot care and appropriate support to other health professionals.
- To be a primary source of information for the community in all matters relating to the foot.
- To ensure podiatry is conducted in a manner consistent with the registration and the Code of Ethics of the Australian/New Zealand Podiatry Association.
